Steem - all builds

3.2

  Steem 3.2 (Win32) 22/10/2004
This was the last version released by Steem authors Ant & Russ Hayward.

Steem 3.2 Debug (Win32) 22/10/2004
This is the Boiler version, the great ST debugger made by Steem authors.

  Steem 3.2+ (Win32, BCC build, 27/08/2013)
  Steem Debug 3.2+ (Win32, BCC build, 27/08/2013)
Steem v3.2+ is a build based on Steem source R63 as released by
Steem authors Anthony & Russell Hayward.
Only thing changed is no update attempt.
Compiler: Borland C++ 5.5, like previous versions of Steem.
There are improvements on v3.2 of 2004, at least in:
- Blitter emulation
- Sound rendering

3.3

Steem SSE 3.3.0 (Win32, VC6 build) 28/02/2012

This is the first SSE version. It was mainly a hack of the Hatari emulator video part, with generally good results. It also hacked the fake IKBD emulation for some demos described in other pages. I was vexed that this nice hack wasn't appreciated more and I removed it from later versions. Still I learnt much from this phase.

This version also already included some genuine CPU fixes that allow to run more demos.

All in all, it was a very solid offering, a step ahead for Steem and its enthusiasts, with so very few programs broken. :)

Steem SSE 3.3.0 (Win32, BCC build) 09/09/2012

This is a later Borland C++ build of the same source. Command-line arguments should work with this version (code was missing for the VC6 build). There may be some differences in performance too (in one way or the other).

Steem SSE 3.3.0 Debug (Win32, BCC build) 09/09/2012

3.4

  Steem SSE 3.4.0 (Win32, VC6 build) 22/09/2012

This is a major update, the goal being to keep all the fixes of v3.3, fix the rare regressions, and add some features. The main feature added is HD6301V1 "true" emulation, as opposed to the previous (but not discarded) "fake" emulation based on input/output. The 6301 chip was the intelligent keyboard controller, also called IKBD. Emulation uses 3rd party code, Sim6xx by Arne Riiber, and some precious doc by Stephane Catala.

But there are also blitter, video, sound, CPU improvements. The display modes have been improved too.

  Steem SSE 3.4.0 (Win32, BCC build) 22/09/2012

Steem SSE 3.4.0 Debug (Win32, BCC build) 22/09/2012

Steem SSE 3.4.0 Linux (Linux, GCC) 06/10/2012
This is the first Linux build of Steem SSE made available. Experimental, the idea is that Linux boys tell what's wrong with it. It's a zip archive; 'steem' is the binary, it should run from anywhere. Before you send me furious messages, keep in mind that I know very little of Unix/Linux and rarely boot in that OS.

  Steem SSE 3.4.1 (Win32, VC6 build) 14/11/2012
Bugfix: crash on going fullscreen on some computers.

3.5

  Steem SSE 3.5.0 (Win32, VC6 build) 27/02/2013
New features: IPF support, AVI support, CPU prefetch overhauled, FDC fixes (slow mode), RAR support, wake-up state option, and many fixes of other features.

  Steem SSE 3.5.0 (Win32, BCC build) 27/02/2013
  The Borland C++ 5.5 build.

  Steem SSE 3.5.0 Debug (Win32, VC6 build) 27/02/2013
The Boiler. No guarantee of any sort.

Steem SSE 3.5.0 Debug (Win32, BCC build) 27/02/2013
Most development of Steem SSE is done using this version.

  Steem SSE 3.5.0 Linux32 (Linux, GCC) 02/03/2013

The Linux build of 3.5.0, includes emulation improvements (or regressions!) of the Windows version (CPU, drive...) but not AVI, IPF, RAR. How well it works could depend on your configuration, please don't ask for support.

A debug build is included (outputs trace on demand, check 'Linux.txt').

  Steem SSE 3.5.1 (Win32, VC6 build) 11/06/2013
This is essentially a version with refactoring (rewriting the code of some parts) and debugging.

Some cool new features have been added though: display mode with interpolated scanlines (just try it, it's great!), disk drive track info as "leds" on your screen, disk image name scroller, auto set 2MB for STE, 1MB for STF.

The timings in slow floppy disk drive mode have been much improved.

The CPU exception process is now directly based on Motorola microcodes! Steem shows the way.

  Steem SSE V.3.5.1 OPT (Win32, VC6 build) 15/06/2013
The OPT build is a Visual C++ 6 build with some optimisations turned on.
The file is smaller and it seems to work, so why not?

  Steem SSE 3.5.1 (Win32, BCC build) 11/06/2013
  The Borland C++ 5.5 build.

  Steem SSE 3.5.1 Debug (Win32, VC6 build) 11/06/2013
The Boiler. No guarantee of any sort.

Steem SSE 3.5.1 Debug (Win32, BCC build) 11/06/2013
Most development of Steem SSE is done using this version.

  Steem SSE 3.5.1 Linux32 (Linux, GCC) 13/06/2013

The Linux build of 3.5.1, includes emulation improvements (or regressions!) of the Windows version (CPU, drive...) but not all features (no IPF or interpolated scanlines for example). How well it works could depend on your configuration, please don't ask for support. It works well on my system, so it should be fine.

  Steem SSE 3.5.2 (Win32, VC6 build) 04/08/2013
Bugfixes, shameless lifting of Hatari insights, and some improvements of my own.
Especially the problems with new options not being updated were annoying, this explains the short delay.
This build is a Visual C++ 6 build with some optimisations turned on, so there's no need for an 'OPT' build.

  Steem SSE 3.5.2 Debug (Win32, VC6 build) 04/08/2013
The Boiler. No guarantee of any sort.

  Steem SSE 3.5.2 (Win32, BCC build) 04/08/2013
The archive contains both the regular and the debug Borland C++ builds.

  Steem SSE 3.5.2 Linux32 (Linux, GCC) 04/08/2013
Yes! This time it is released at the same date as the Windows build. As usual it contains fewer features but it's working (normally).

  Steem SSE 3.5.3 (Win32, VC6 build) 13/10/2013
Some bugfixes, new hacks, refined "shifter tricks", reintroduction of the OSD plasma at start and stop, larger maximal display, sorting out the file associations. Yes, a fine point release.

  Steem SSE 3.5.3 Debug (Win32, VC6 build) 13/10/2013
The Boiler. No guarantee of any sort.

  Steem SSE 3.5.3 Linux32 (Linux, GCC) 20/10/2013
The Linux build of 3.5.3, includes emulation improvements (or regressions!) of the Windows version (CPU, drive...) but not all features. At least I get it compiling and running.

  Steem SSE 3.5.4 (Win32, VC6 build) 17/11/2013
It was supposed to be a quick bugfix release and it ends up experimental... New features: status info, VSync in window mode, triple buffering.

  Steem SSE 3.5.4 Debug (Win32, VC6 build) 17/11/2013
The Boiler. No guarantee of any sort.

  Steem.SSE.3.7.0.Win32 (Win32, VS2008 build) 28/02/2015 - 3 years of Steem SSE fun!
D3D support for more compatible fullscreen, support for STW disk images, STG ghost disks, run PRG and TOS
files, many emulation improvements. You do need an up-to-date, working, installation of Direct3D 9.

  Steem.SSE.3.7.0.Win32.NoD3D (Win32, VC6 build) 28/02/2015
As the name implies, it doesn't include D3D support, so you may still run Steem on older computers, or if you have bad configuration problems.
It's a tad smaller but less optimised than the main build.

  Steem.SSE.3.7.0.Debug.Win32 (Win32, VS2008 build) 28/02/2015
The great boiler, becoming more and more powerful. Please help us make those bad programs work.
